REAL Marine Plywood
Marine Plywood, there are 2 grades
With certified Marine Plywood there are only 2 types available in Australia. There are the Australian Standard AS2272 grade, and British Standard BS1088.
With the top quality Australian AS2272 grade, it is tested and graded under the PAA (Plywood Association of Australia) or as it is now called EWPAA Engineered Wood Panels Association of Australia. They have very strict testing and verification procedures that must be followed with independent testing by EWPAA also. You are assured that this plywood does meet the AS2272 standard.
With British Standard BS1088 there is no testing required to verify that the plywood is being manufactured to the correct quality standards, so when you see a very cheap ply saying it meets the BS1088 if probably does not. We at MultiRack only use suppliers we can know will supply quality plywood to the BS1088 standard.

Australian Standard AS2272
To the left is a picture of Marine Ply made to AS2272 from Austral Plywood, They are the only manufacturer of marine ply that complies with Australian Standards.
This Plywood is made from Hoop Pine that is grown in plantations that are FSC compliant.
Marine plywood has long been known as the “Rolls Royce” of plywood, and for good reason. It is a high performing product, suitable when “only the best will do”. Constructed using the highest grade veneers (face and core veneers), it is manufactured from selected species based on density, bending strength, impact resistance and surface finishing characteristics. Marine plywood manufactured to AS/NZS 2272 – 2006 has a permanent Type A phenolic bond. Austral Marine Plywood is manufactured using plantation Hoop Pine, a designated marine specie. A . Manufacturer “Austral Plywood”
B. Veneer Grade AA only grade allowed under AS2272
C. Glue, “A Bond” – this is marine glue, Austral use a Phonolic type Marine
Also “E0” this is the formaldehyde emission rating for this glue. “0” is lowest rating
D. Mill Number “412” Austral Plywood mill number with PAA
E. Stress Grade (strength) “F17” the larger the number the stronger it is.

Where is it made?
We only buy all AS2272 ply from Austral Plywood, the ONLY manufacturer of marine ply that complies with Australian Standards. They have a factory in Brisbane that opened in 1925. We have been buying from Austral since 1981.
Austral manufacture a wide range of panel products, specialising in marine plywood and appearance grade plywoods. Their plywood has been used in a number of high profile projects, including the Brisbane Supreme & District Courts, Perth Arena and Melbourne Recital Centre.
BS1088 Plywood
The picture on Left is Marine Ply made to BS1088. This ply is made from 100% Eucalyptus Hardwood with a type A bond Marine Glue, this makes it very strong and with the hardwood timber veneers it is very durable. It also has a beautiful grain so would look great with clear finish in furniture.
We at Multirack only buy from reputable suppliers that only sell plywood that meets BS1088 and also FSC Chain of Custody (Forest Stewardship Council) for responsibly managed timber harvesting and processing.
We can access these low grades of non compliant BS1088 ply, but rest assured if buying from us we will never buy or sell these low grade and cheaper ply that does not meet BS1088.
BS1088 Verification
This compliance stamp is for Marine Ply made to BS1088. It is from 1 of our British Standard plywood suppliers. BS1088 ply is NOT manufactured in Australia.
Be aware that not all plywood stamped with BS1088 meets the standard.

Building or repairing a Boat
It is extremely important that if you are Building or Repairing a Boat or other structure and it specifies a Grade of Marine ply to use, you must use that grade, your life may depend on it if you hit a reef or object in the water.
With Australian Standard Marine AS2272 it have penetration properties that are designed to greatly reduce the size of a hole in the unfortunate event of hitting a object.

Ply Cut to Size
At Multi Rack we offer a cutting service for the plywood we sell. We have a German Altendorf sliding bench saw for near accurate cutting of your ply needs.
There is a charge for all cutting. We can only cut a sheet completely through, we cannot do half width or lengths cut with this saw bench.
Freight
At Multirack we can freight any plywood to most areas of Queensland using Followmont and other states also. We can either pack it in a large type bubble wrap or crate it for larger orders at a small cost.
